Survey: 57% of Urban Internet Users between 18-35 Years of Age
According to I-Cube 2008, a joint annual survey of internet users conducted by IMRB International and Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), more than 50 per cent of 17.9 million active internet users in urban India belong to the age group 18-25 years. This group comprised two categories: college going students (27 per cent) and young men (30 per cent).
From the graph, it becomes pertinent that youths are increasingly adopting Internet not as a technology but as another medium to indulge in their important wide-ranging daily activities – listening to music, making friends, promoting themselves and conducting business or exercising their occupation. Specifically, online gaming is emerging as a major growth area attracting investments by content developers and distributors.
Infact few days back, there was a survey from the same house validating 3.3 Mn Active internet users in rural India.

Thanks for the information. Was wondering about the number of urban active internet users being very low.
So what are your thoughts on that?

Abhishek:
The 17.9 Mn is for the 30 cities that were surveyed. This is not an estimate for the country.
