It’s yet again time for the weekly summary of Web, Technology and few more interesting stuff that surfaced in the past week (i.e. 7th-13th December, 2008). As said earlier last week, I’ll be posting a weekly wrapup of whatever is happening in Web, Technology, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media and many more interesting stuff that you might want to spend your time with.

1. MTNL launches 3G services in India: State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd became the first mobile company in India to launch 3G mobile services. The company is planning to give 3G services without any additional charge to its existing premium subscribers for a period of two months on a trial basis. The service is launched by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, during the Indian Telecom Summit in New Delhi. Nikhil of MediaNama has covered the topic comprehensively here.

2. Yahoo’s CEO hunt: Arun Sarin, former head of Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile operator by revenue, has been approached about taking on the role of chief executive at Yahoo. Yahoo Inc. directors steering the search for a new chief executive are moving closer to a recommendation and have authorized checking references on a few key candidates, although a decision is likely to be weeks away at the earliest. Among those being considered is Arun Sarin, who retired as chief executive of Vodafone Group PLC in July.

3. Google Zeitgeist: Google reveals stats on search queries through the aggregation of millions of search queries they receive every day. Read here for official Google Blog release. Infact, last week I posted the same about Yahoo year end search query release but it did left me puzzled since more or less it remained the same for the last 3 years. And if you want to know India stats, then read’s (with all new design – Ashish changed the blog layout and me likes it) post on the same. It sure has some interesting juice on the same.

4. WordPress 2.7 “Coltrane” released to download: WordPress 2.7 downloadable form has been released for self-hosted blogs and the reviews from around the blogosphere has been quite good. Personally, I haven’t yet uploaded it due to some technical snags but surely will resolve and do the same in no time. This is what Matt Mullenweg of AutoMattic who created WordPress says in the WP Release post:

The first thing you’ll notice about 2.7 is its new interface. From the top down, we’ve listened to your feedback and thought deeply about the design and the result is a WordPress that’s just plain faster. Nearly every task you do on your blog will take fewer clicks and be faster in 2.7 than it did in a previous version. (Download it now, or read on for more.)

To take it futher, read this interesting article from Mashable who lists down “20 must see features of WordPress 2.7“. BTW, love the Automatic update feature of WP 2.7. It was something which I was waiting for in the newer version.

5. LeWeb 2008, Paris Concludes: The word around the blogosphere is that this year’s LeWeb, Paris was not that stimulating as it was last year. But I’m waiting for more reviews on the same. But this one is one of the wrapup reviews from Le’Web 2008. Everyone mentioned that John Buckman, Morten Lund, Marrisa Mayer (blogged about it here) and Gary Vaynerchuk (hope I pronounce it correctly) were one of the best speakers in the conference.
