What Influences Indian Mainstream Popular Culture?
Few weeks back Gaurav Sikka (@gsik) started off a research project for determining top three/four pop culture influences on mainstream India within few categories like Film, Music, Gaming, Television, Comics, Sports, Fashion/Lifestyle, Educational/Historical, Cultural/Travel.
Quite a lot of us commented on his blog about our take on what influences mainstream Indian culture (here’s my comment).
Now Gaurav has come up with his results. I’m partly sharing his results here. Do pay a visit to his blog to read more.
My Comments: Though most of the findings were quite expected but its interesting to see how Internet and all things mobile (phones, ringtones, games, downloads) have got into the winner category list. And if you ask me what are the things to come in the next few years then definitely internet and stuff related to internet with a major push from mobiles will play a major role in our mainstream culture.

@Manu Still confused about the statement! Do mean that since the respondents for the above research work were heavy users of both mobile & internet, hence the results were skewed?
Then my thoughts would be another question – what is mainstream popular culture? Urban populace or rural India we are talking about here!

POP CULTURE SHOULD BE CURBED IN INDIA…
